The photos for this presentation are from the collection of Swiss-American photographer Max Hubacher. Max Henry Hubacher was born in 1900 in Bern, Switzerland and emigrated to the United States in 1923, where he lived first in West Virginia and then New York until his death in 1989. A chemist, local historian, and amateur photographer who photographed his travels throughout Europe, Canada, New York, and the American West, he developed all his prints from glass plate negatives. Below, a view of the Borough Hall South area.
The photos that you will be viewing were taken from the Picture Collection at the New York Public Library, a collection of over a million pictures which you can take home with your library card. The presentation has been organized by PPA member Gloria Rosner.
